Indian Institute of
Cartoonists

IIC is an organization, first of its kind in India, established with the aim of promoting the art of cartooning in the country. The Institute, based in Bangalore, aims to recognize talents in the field of cartooning and reward them, showcase and preserve their art for future generations, guide young and budding cartoonists and above all, popularize the art among the masses.

Our Aims and Objectives

* To institute annual awards and Life time Achievement Award for excellence in the field of cartooning in India, the awardees for which will be selected by a jury of eminent citizens, it also plans to make documentary films on them.

* To launch a Website which will be a virtual encyclopedia for all info on Indian Cartoonists and their creations.

* To start a chain of cartoon galleries in Bangalore and other cities and hold cartoon exhibitions.

* To build a House of Cartoons that will include on exhibition hall, library auditorium and picture hall. The Exhibition hall will hold shows of regional, national and International cartoonists. Also on the envil is a Museum of original cartoons, and clay models off cartoon characters.

* To collect books and comics for the cartoon library, which will be a reference point for young cartoonists and researchers.

* To take up endowment lectures and programmes, I t plans to Collaborate with foreign cartoon organizations. Next page

* To conduct cartoon workshops and arrange lectures and demonstrations by leading cartoonists on subjects such as caricatures,s pocket cartoons, political cartoons, strip cartoons, doodles and animation.

* To recognize and felicitate persons or the organisations who have served the cause of cartoons.

* To institute awards for ads which use cartoons in advertisements, to popularize the use of cartoons it also plans to produce and distribute Animation films.

* To publish a monthly magazine in English which will publish informative articles and cartoons. Also in the pipeline are seminars and quiz contests.

Our Achievements
Organization of Cartoon gallery every month & Workshops

Indian Institute of Cartoonists organizes cartoon gallery of various cartoonists every month. Two Cartoon Workshop was held in the year 2010. One in association with British Council Library on world environment. The other workshop was intended to give budding cartoonists an insight in the art of drawing cartoons and caricatures which was conducted by eminent cartoonists.

Cartoon Gallery Inagurated - 14th August 2007

Mario Mirandas and R.K.Laxmans in the making can now rub shoulders with the whos who of cartooning in Bangalore. For, the city now houses India’s first cartoon gallery. On Thursday, Governor T.N.Chaturvedi inaugurated the Indian Cartoon Gallery.

Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor M. Thimmappa on Thursday admires a cartoon of Jayalalithaa at an exhibition on 'The Challenge to the Freedom of the Press', organized by the Indian Institute of Cartoonists.

R. K. Laxman Felicitated - 14th February 2002

R. K. Laxman the veteran cartoonist was felicitated by the chief minister S. M. Krishna for his lifetime achievement in the field of cartooning on Thursday here.speaking at a felicitation function organized by the Indian Institute of Cartoonists, in collaboration with the state information department, Mr. Krishna said that R. K. Laxman is known wherever the English language is read and understood.

Inauguration of IIC - 8th & 9th June 2001.
